[Research – Concept – Visualisation]

"The Store. Choose to be aware" is a concept for an immersive pop-up supermarket that educates about the impact of plastic packaging on our physical health. The interactive installation emulates an artificial shopping experience using fake products placed in a white and sterile environment. These products are stylized versions (painted white, with standardized product names and graphic design) of well-known products from major companies that are known to have problematic effects.
Visitors of the installation become "customers" running their errands. After picking up the products of their choice, they are asked to scan them at self-service checkouts. Depending on the amount of harmful components, a light signal turns red, indicating the potential danger. The check-out displays then provide further information, which can be taken home in the form of a receipt. An overview of potentially hazardous products can also be accessed via a website and a mobile app, which links to research institutes and related projects to create a global network.
