[Concept – exhibition design – Project management – Assembly]
As the closing exhibition of the 2023 edition of the Design Campus Dresden at the Kunstgewerbemuseum Dresden [GER], "Pleasure Garden" showcased multimedia explorations created at "The School of Phyto-Centered Design". Initiated by studio d-o-t-s, the school asked curators, designers, and researchers to take a critical look at their relationship with nature and to question old presumptions and structures to form new narratives that go beyond a purely human-centered view of the world. The exhibition is the result of the workshop "Curating Change", which focused on curating as an act of care and activism to raise critical questions and mediate issues related to the current environmental and social crises.
To further emphasize the impact of design on environmental issues, the exhibition makes exclusive use of leftover materials from the museum. In addition to this limitation of resources, the concept focuses on reusability and repurposing. Therefore, all structures are joined with temporary connectors and no alterations were made to the materials themselves. As a result, the exhibition design is dictated by the materials used and their raw appearance.
