The Human Cities/SMOTIES – creative work with small and remote places project aims to create spatial and infrastructural solutions through cultural and creative innovation that contribute to the overall well-being of local communities all over Europe. The project is part of the EU funded Human Cities network, a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, research, and action to improve livability through participatory design.
One of the selected places was Oberzeiring [AUT], a small village in southern Austria known for its high medieval silver mining and the right to mint silver coins. Here a temporary intervention was established as the starting point of the research. Stories from local residents and data about the village were collected, documented, and then presented in the village square. The goal was to showcase different perspectives on the village and inspire people to see its full potential. The installation acted as an initial touch point, bringing designers and locals together for more in-depth exchange and critical discussion.
